The Parthenon is a ruined temple on the Acropolis in Athens built in the Doric order with eight columns at the façade, and seventeen columns at the flanks. It was built in 5th century BC and was dedicated to the goddess Athena. Although the building has been damaged over the centuries its basic structure has remained intact.
