The Alcazaba, in Malaga, is the best-preserved Moorish fortress palace in Spain. The fortified palace was originally built on the ruins of a Roman fortification around 756-780AD and is now one of the most emblematic Islamic heritage sites in Andalusia – look out for the caliphal horseshoe arches, courtyards and fountains. The Patio de la Alberca is a highlight and redolent of the Alhambra in Granada.
