The iconic Basílica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona was designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Intended to just be a simple Roman Catholic church dedicated to Jesus, Mary and Joseph the basilica is now one of the best examples of Catalan Modernism. Incredibly the building, begun in 1882 is actually unfinished and has been under construction for nearly 140 years. It is one of the most visited monuments in Spain.
