The Roar hitmaker will also do a one-night-only show on NCL’s high-end new ship

She took a cruise and she liked it – and now popstar Katy Perry has been named as the godmother of NCL’s new ship Norwegian Prima when it debuts in August.
Not only will she fulfill the maritime tradition of blessing and officially naming the ship – and smashing a bottle of bubbly against the bow – but the Roar singer will also perform a one-night-only show at the ceremony in Reykjavík, Iceland on 27 August 2022.
‘All the best trips my family has taken have been on a boat. Nothing compares,’ Katy said. ‘Every morning that you wake up, you get to experience an incredible new view.
‘I love that I get to christen her with my good vibrations, and I’m so excited for this new, beautiful, high-end, high-tech ship to take the seas, and provide once-in-a-lifetime vacations for so many families. I think it’s the best way to see the world.’
Norwegian Cruise Line’s President and CEO Harry Sommer said: ‘We are so excited to welcome Katy Perry, a one-of-a-kind artist and worldwide sensation, as godmother of Norwegian Prima. We are so incredibly proud that she will be part of the Norwegian Cruise Line family and look forward to launching our beautiful, innovative ship with her in August.’
It will be the first time a ship has been christened in the Icelandic capital and Norwegian Prima will offer inaugural voyages to Northern Europe from Southampton, England; Amsterdam; and Reykjavík, Iceland beginning 12 August; Bermuda sailings from New York City beginning 6 October; and Caribbean itineraries from Galveston, Texas and Miami beginning 27 October.

Norwegian Prima is the first of six vessels in NCL’s Prima Class, offering a more high end cruising experience with myriad infinity pools, outdoor spa with a glass walled sauna (cheeky!) and cold room, along with an alfresco international dining marketplace. There will also be plenty of Instagrammable spots onboard with a sculpture garden, featuring installations by artists David Harber and Alexander Krivosheiw. NCL are also looking to incorporate Perry’s music and personal style on the ship as well.
The cruise line partnership comes as Perry finishes the second leg of her Play residency in Las Vegas, which completes its run in August. To celebrate Katy’s new role, NCL has put together a celebratory Spotify playlist.
An 11-day cruise departing Southampton on 4 June 2022 on NCL’s Norwegian Prima and calling at Brussels, Amsterdam, Bergen, Geiranger, Alesund, Akureyri, Isafjorder and Reykjavik, starts at £2075 per person for an ocean view cabin, including an overnight stay in the Icelandic capital city.
As a magazine and website editor, Karen has been lucky enough to travel the world but is happiest on the water. She loves the Mediterranean and the Middle East and married an Italian in Rome and lived in Dubai for five years. Italy is her favourite country, but says stand out work trips involved doing karaoke and meeting a geisha in Japan and cuddling a koala and collecting pearls in Australia. Karen is passionate about cruising and even has her own cruise blog Cruise Blondes that she created with a former colleague and friend Rebecca Barnes. Her next cruise is to Croatia followed by a voyage to the Norwegian fjords.
