MSC Cruises Opens World’s Largest Cruise Terminal in Miami

An enormous new MSC cruise terminal in Miami has opened ahead of MSC Cruises’ newest ship’s inaugural Caribbean voyage.

MSC Cruises has officially opened its new flagship facility at PortMiami, setting a new benchmark for cruise infrastructure. The new MSC cruise terminal in Miami is not only the world’s largest but also the first in the industry to offer a fully biometric journey with digital identity verification, designed to make embarkation smoother and faster than ever.

Spanning a whopping 492,678 sqft, the four-level terminal can process up to 36,000 passengers per day. It will serve both MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, including the new MSC World America, which will be named at the terminal on 9 April before sailing her inaugural Caribbean season.

Biometric cruise check-in at MSC Miami cruise terminal

One of the terminal’s standout features is the biometric check-in system, a first in the cruise industry. Guests who check in online ahead of arrival can upload their documents and prepare for facial recognition. Once at the terminal, they simply scan their passport and face one of 18 biometric face pods for instant identity verification.

After identity checks, passengers move through 20 dedicated security lanes, followed by 22 biometric E-gates that complete the boarding process. Because this now happens terminal-side instead of on the ship, guests can begin their holiday as soon as they step aboard.

Arrival and parking at MSC cruise terminal Miami

Arriving at the new terminal is simple, whether guests travel by car, bus, taxi or ride-share. The six-level parking garage offers more than 2,400 spaces and can be pre-booked through the MSC for Me app or the MSC Cruises website. A covered drop-off zone for shuttles, taxis and ride-shares leads to a sheltered walkway, guiding passengers directly to the entrance.

Streamlined luggage drop-off for MSC Cruises passengers

Luggage handling has also been upgraded. Guests who have checked in online can scan their boarding passes at secure drop-off points within the parking garage. There are 42 luggage screening machines in total, helping to move bags quickly and efficiently through the system.

Art and design at MSC Miami cruise terminal

Guests will also enjoy the terminal’s curated art programme, part of the Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places initiative. Seven unique artworks are on display, including a show-stopping 10,816-square-foot digital projection that wraps the terminal’s exterior. This dynamic installation uses real-time NOAA ocean data to display shifting tides, currents and weather patterns. Exclusive artworks also enhance the MSC Yacht Club lounge.

The opening of the MSC cruise terminal in Miami marks a major step forward in guest-focused cruise travel. With digital innovation, smart logistics and comfort at its core, it’s set to transform how passengers begin and end their cruise holidays from PortMiami.
