The industry’s biggest thermal spa, a brand-new Indian speciality restaurant and an immersive dining room headline the reveal of NCL’s newest and largest ship.
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has lifted the lid on its newest and largest ship, Norwegian Aura, ahead of her inaugural sailing in May 2027. Building on the Prima Plus Class, Aura brings a run of brand firsts to the fleet, from the most expansive thermal suite at sea to a speciality restaurant dedicated entirely to Indian cuisine.
Norwegian Aura sets sail on 21 May 2027 with a seven-day Mediterranean maiden voyage from Trieste to Barcelona, ahead of a 13-day transatlantic crossing to Miami, where she takes up Caribbean itineraries. Here’s the latest about what’s onboard.
Aura’s thermal suite is the largest NCL has ever put to sea, with 15 wellness experiences built around contrast therapy, letting guests move between hot and cold spaces to build their own recovery routine.
The standout is the Sensory Rain Pool, a 360-degree immersive experience that shifts from still water to tropical rainfall and on to a full thunderstorm, complete with simulated lightning and rolling thunder. It’s joined by a Snow Cave lined with fresh powder, a Blue Glow Suite designed to aid post-travel recovery, guided hot and cold plunge pools, a Waterfall Experience, a Reflection Pool with sea views and a dedicated Foot Spa, alongside a Salt Room, Meditation Lounge, saunas and steam rooms for quieter moments.
The spa also houses 24 treatment rooms, a full-service salon, a Skin Lab and expanded medi-spa services including IV therapy and NAD+ injections, alongside a fitness centre with dedicated training studios.
Aura introduces Tamara, NCL’s first speciality restaurant built entirely around Indian cuisine. It grew out of the popularity of the Indian dishes served at Indulge Food Hall on the Prima Class ships, elevated here into a dedicated venue on Deck 8 with warm earth tones, architecture inspired by North Indian temples and courtyards and an open-view kitchen anchored by tandoor ovens.
The menu leans into regional dishes, among them a Short-Rib Dosa with tomato sambar and coconut chutney, a Lamb Biryani with caramelised onions and a Green Papaya Salad tossed tableside with pomegranate, tamarind and chilli.
Also new to Aura is The Panorama Room, which rethinks what a main dining room can be. On Deck 6, floor-to-ceiling LED displays, multi-channel audio and dynamic lighting shift through the day and evening, moving guests through changing landscapes as they eat. Hudson’s, the ship’s other main dining room, known for its 270-degree ocean views, also debuts a fresh design.
Beyond the new openings, Aura’s existing lineup has been reworked for easier flow and considerably more space. Le Bistro and Sukhothai sit on Deck 7, with Palomar and Onda by Scarpetta relocated to Deck 8 with expanded seating, Cagney’s Steakhouse gets a moodier redesign and Hasuki and Nama return with lighter interiors.
The bar scene gets a similar refresh, led by a Penrose Bar & Atrium with more than double its previous seating and a dedicated stage for live entertainment, alongside the Metropolitan Bar, Swirl Wine Bar, Belvedere Bar and Whiskey Bar. Indulge Food Hall returns with nine stations and The Local Bar & Grill continues to serve pub classics through much of the day.
Guests booked into The Haven, NCL’s ship-within-a-ship suite complex, get a newly designed Haven Bar and Lounge and Haven Restaurant, created by longtime NCL design partner Studio DADO with earth tones and a canopy of greenery.
Elsewhere on board, the outdoor Ocean Heights zone adds six slides, an 82-foot ropes course and NCL’s first overhanging cabanas above Vibe Beach Club.
After her Mediterranean debut, Norwegian Aura repositions to Miami for seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailings through summer 2027 and 2028, calling at Puerto Plata, St Thomas, Tortola and NCL’s private island Great Stirrup Cay. Over winter 2027/28, she switches to week-long Western Caribbean itineraries, taking in Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Harvest Caye, NCL’s private destination off Belize.
