We are on a break! The one about the Friends cruise

Oh My God. Could we be any more excited? Fans of the famous sitcom will be thrilled to hear about the Friends cruise hitting the high seas.

Words by Karen Pasquali Jones

If you own the box set and have binge-watched every one of the 236 episodes in the 10 series of Friends – that’s three days and nine-and-half hours of nonstop top entertainment – then could we be any more excited? Because there’s now a dream holiday where it’s finally OK to officially be on a break surrounded by all things related to the most popular TV sitcom of all time.

It may have been 28 years since we became obsessed with the lives of Joey, Phoebe, Monica, Chandler, Rachel and Ross as they lived across the hall from each other in New York.

But if the recent reunion of Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer wasn’t enough of a Friends fix, now you can visit some of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean while being immersed in the hit TV show on a Friends cruise.

Not only can 500 die-hard Friends fans explore some of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean, but they’ll be able to enjoy down moments with Friends-style entertainment.

Sadly the gang won’t be there, but there’s a come-as-your-favourite-character get-together, trivia quizzes (just don’t bet your apartment on the answer) and a cookery demonstration that even chef Monica would be proud of.

The trip begins in Key West, Florida’s tropical oasis, home to some of the most beautiful sunsets, nature and American novelist Ernest Hemingway’s colonial house. Stroll along the palm-lined streets before taking a tour of Hemingway’s home and grounds – he wrote Death in the Afternoon and To Have and Have Not here – or visit the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Gardens.

All the Friends gang would love Grand Cayman, the glitzy mecca in the Cayman Islands where you can take a helicopter ride over Seven Mile Beach, swim with dolphins and stingrays (definitely one for Pheebs) or flex Chandler’s credit card shopping and sipping rum punch. Water sports fans can explore coral reefs and shipwrecks before flopping out on the golden sands at the ultimate beach destination.

Cozumel is the largest, unspoilt island in the Mexican Caribbean. With its untouched shoreline, jungle (we know!) and the world’s second largest coral reef, this is a nature-lovers, divers and snorkellers’ paradise.

There’s even the San Gervasio Mayan Archeological Site to explore ancient ruins, which Ross would dig in every way.

For picture perfect moments, hire a moped, or a jeep, and head to El Mirador, with its seascape rock formations or to the ecological park at Punta Sur where you can get up close to crocodiles. You can even take part in a beach clean-up project to make sure you leave this idyllic island pristine for its next visitors – something Monica would love.
