Kayak, hike and sail the Amazon: Abercrombie & Kent launches first riverboat in Peru

Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group has announced the launch of its first-ever riverboat in Peru, South America, with sailings from next year.

Peru is one of the world’s greatest biodiversity hotspots, home to thousands of wildlife species, jaw-dropping natural landscapes and a fascinatingly rich cultural heritage.

All of this will be central to Abercrombie & Kent’s brand-new riverboat itineraries in partnership with Ecoventura, the company’s expedition yacht brand in the Galapagos.

The Amazon River cruises onboard the yet-to-be-named ship will launch in April 2025 and offer an action-packed, fresh new way to explore the country’s most undiscovered regions.

What can you do on the Abercrombie & Kent river cruises?

Three and four-night itineraries are available, all of which will sail to and from the port town of Nauta, a short transfer from the nearest airport of Iquitos.

Sailing along the Amazon River, explorers will delve into the heart of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve – a huge area of rainforest famous for its plethora of colourful bird species and being one of the last remaining homes of the Giant South American turtle.

Guided daily excursions via kayak, canoe or on foot with Abercrombie & Kent will offer the chance to spot some of the Amazon Rainforest’s most iconic wildlife, including pink river dolphins and three-toed sloths.

For those who might be a dab hand with a fishing rod, fishing in the black waters of the Reserve’s Samira River is not to be missed.

What will the new Abercrombie & Kent riverboat be like?

The “floating boutique hotel” is home to 10 double cabins and two single cabins featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect for soaking up jaw-dropping views.

Guests can also expect an outdoor swimming pool, indoor and outdoor bars and lounges. Additionally, there’s a spa boasting treatments and wellness experiences inspired by Amazonian traditions, a well-equipped gym and, to top it all off, a guest-to-staff ratio of 1:1.

If only marmalade sandwiches spring to mind when you think of Peru, think again…When it comes to dining onboard, A&K suggests this is an “adventure in itself,” with menus showcasing the diverse culinary heritage of Peru, particularly in the Amazon thanks to local flavours and ingredients.

HOW DO I SIGN UP TO BOOK?

Bookings for A&K’s new Peruvian riverboat are possible from June 2024. And if you’re looking to spend a little longer than three or four days exploring Peru by water, fear not, as voyages can be combined to create seven-night sailings on the Marañon and Ucayali rivers.
