Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship Norwegian Aqua is the fleet’s newest addition – what can passengers find onboard the new NCL vessel?
Norwegian Aqua has arrived in Miami [main image] to begin her winter season of Caribbean cruises, sailing seven-day itineraries through to April 2026. The new Norwegian Cruise Line ship will call at destinations including Puerto Plata, St Thomas, Tortola and NCL’s private island Great Stirrup Cay, which is currently being enhanced with a new pier, a vast heated pool and a splash area for children.
Launched in April 2025, Norwegian Aqua is the first of the expanded Prima Plus Class ships and builds on the success of NCL’s popular Prima and Viva vessels. Norwegian Aqua was christened in Miami in a star-studded ceremony led by ship godfather, Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet.
From record-breaking thrills to brand-new dining concepts and next-level luxury cabins, Norwegian Aqua promises plenty of firsts. So, what can you expect when you step aboard?
Spanning 1,056 feet and 156,300 gross tons, Norwegian Aqua is around 10 percent larger than her Prima Class sisters, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, and can carry 3,571 guests at double occupancy. It also offers more outdoor space and the highest staffing levels of any new contemporary cruise ship.
Aqua features brand-new experiences exclusive to the ship, plus returning fan favourites like Ocean Boulevard and The Haven. It’s also the first NCL ship to be christened at the line’s LEED Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami.
Adding to the excitement is the ship’s striking hull art, “Where the Sky Meets the Sea,” designed by NCL’s first major female hull artist, Allison Hueman. The design is said to bring together abstract mythology and vibrant, feminine energy.
Norwegian Aqua premieres the world’s first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide, the Aqua Slidecoaster [above, right]. Complete with exhilarating dual slides and a magnetic lift that propels adventurous guests through two different courses, this NCL cruise ship exclusive experience features three stories of exciting twists and turns around the ship’s funnel.
The new Glow Court, a digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor, offers a variety of interactive guest activities by day and then transforms into a nightclub in the evening. Norwegian Aqua debuts the all-new Aqua Game Zone [above, centre], an expanded entertainment space combining VR experiences like Space Racing and Beat Hero with retro classics including Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. Guests can also test their aim at the Bull’s Eye Bar, a new full-service darts venue with cocktails and digital scoring.
Norwegian Aqua cruise ship guests are also able to continue to enjoy some of their favourite Prima Class experiences aboard Norwegian Aqua, including The Drop, NCL’s 10-story free-fall slide, and the Stadium, a now expanded game space offering complimentary activities.
Guests looking to spend their days lounging at sea, can enjoy Norwegian Aqua’s infinity edge pool with expanded seating, and for the first time in NCL’s fleet, day beds will be available on the main pool deck [above, right] for guests to lounge and relax.
For an elevated and adults-only experience, the expanded Vibe Beach Club provides more lounge seating, while the Mandara Spa [below, right] offer serene escapes from the action-packed decks.
With additional outdoor spaces, guests can spend their days exploring and enjoying NCL’s most expansive Ocean Boulevard to date, the outdoor walkway that wraps around the entire ship complete with Oceanwalk, a glass bridge that offers great photo opportunities; Infinity Beach featuring expanded vistas and intimate pools overlooking each side of the ship; and La Terrazza, the open-air lounge with sweeping sea views.
For those travelling with children, NCL’s family-favourite Splash Academy, for children ages three to 12, returns to Norwegian Aqua. Adolescents aged 13 to 17 can engage in fun, age-appropriate activities at Entourage, NCL’s signature teen club, which enjoys its very own dedicated space.
Guests can enjoy new productions such as “Revolution: A Celebration of Prince” [below, left]. This exclusive, high-energy tribute show headlines Aqua’s onboard entertainment programme. It honours the legendary artist with a concert-like experience featuring hits like “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Little Red Corvette,” and “Purple Rain.”Set in the Aqua Theater & Club, the show will feature interactive elements, allowing guests to enjoy the performance from either traditional seating or the dance floor alongside the cast.
NCL’s top-rated show, “Elements,” is also reimagined as “Elements: The World Expanded,” blending acrobatics, magic, and intrigue with themes of earth, wind, water, and fire for a stunning performance. It builds on the success of the original “Elements,” enhancing its magic, acrobatics and visual storytelling for a more immersive experience.
In addition to these shows, other onboard entertainment includes “The Improv at Sea” comedy club, “The Price is Right LIVE on NCL” game show, and “Syd Norman’s Presents: Rumours,” a Fleetwood Mac tribute performance.
The Aqua Theater & Club is a three-story venue transforming from a theatre to a Vegas-style nightclub with themed events like a ’90s party, a Latin music night, and a Prince-inspired “Pop Life” club experience. The entertainment also includes a new in-house production, “The Welcome Aboard Show,” and the popular “Ocean Music Fest,” a jam session featuring multiple musicians.
Norwegian Aqua introduces three exciting new onboard attractions, including Sukhothai, NCL’s inaugural Thai speciality restaurant [below, left]; Swirl Wine Bar; and Planterie, the brand’s debut plant-based eatery.
Sukhothai promises a fusion of authentic Thai cuisine with inventive flavours, set amidst a mix of traditional and contemporary Thai design elements. Meanwhile, Planterie, within the Indulge Food Hall, caters to health-conscious diners with its array of vegan dishes.
Swirl Wine Bar [below, right] is an intimate retreat featuring an extensive selection of wines in a setting inspired by the natural beauty of Antelope Canyon in Arizona.
The ship’s redesign includes enhancements to existing venues such as the Commodore Room, Metropolitan, and Nama Sushi and Sashimi [below, centre], offering guests a fresh experience in familiar spaces. Surfside Café and Palomar also boast revamped designs and panoramic views.
Several bars and dining spots, including Whiskey Bar, Belvedere Bar, Penrose Bar and Waves Pool Bar, sport updated designs. Additionally, popular eateries like The Local Bar & Grill, Hasuki, and Cagney’s have undergone expansions to accommodate more guests.
Returning favourites like Hudson’s, Le Bistro, Los Lobos and Onda by Scarpetta continue to delight NCL guests with their signature offerings.
Boasting NCL’s first-ever Three-Bedroom Duplex Haven Suites, Norwegian Aqua offers all-new luxurious accommodations in the Brand’s premium keycard-access-only complex, The Haven by Norwegian.
These four two-story spacious suites feature separate living and dining areas; three bathrooms; a sprawling balcony; and three bedrooms, of which two include a king-size bed, with the master offering floor-to-ceiling windows for breathtaking ocean views.
