Diocletian’s Palace is the main attraction in the city of Split and consists of some of the most valuable surviving ruins of the Roman era on the Adriatic coast. The palace was built by Emperor Diocletian and housed buildings including for military garrison. The complex occupied around 30,000sqm but now shops, cafes and restaurants are located amid the ruined buildings.
