Belém Tower (or Torre de Belem) is an iconic symbol in Lisbon. It was first built (between 1514 and 1520) to defend the city and later became a lighthouse before transforming into a customs house. It was classified as a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO. The tower can be found by the Jerónimos Monastery.
